My Easy Solution To Stop The Illegal Channel Migrants!
Quote from Keith Newman on 10 August 2023, 1:39 pmEvery well-meaning person cites the Australian model for turning back the illegal channel migrants.
But, the geography and circumstances could not be more different to our current channel migrant crisis and here's why...
Australia is an extremely remote destination. The 'Australian Boat People' problem from the 1970s/80s were largely Vietnamese. Up until 2013, a variety of refugees used the same routes, passing through Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia before paying people traffickers to be transported by boats to northern Australia.
The sea journey alone would be over 3,000 miles and could take as long as 10-15 days.
Contrast that with the current channel migrant's relatively short trip of 25 miles, approximately 4 hours on a small dingy.
To cover the 3,000 miles across the Indian Ocean to Australia, a large, substantial boat was required. Food and water for up to 15 days for several hundred people could not be accommodated in a small rubber dingy.
But, most importantly there were hardly any NGO or Mainstream Media lefty activists, prepared to go into that perilous ocean, to witness the Australian navy, shunting and forcing those refugee boats to remote islands, where the boat people were left to either starve, or return to their homelands for a better life. They were never allowed to set foot in Australia and therefore never became a problem for Australia's immigration system.
The UKs channel migrants have no such problems. To begin, they are met by NGOs like Care 4 Calais on the French coast, they are given brochures listing their potential taxpayer's benefits and assigned human rights lawyers before they even set foot on their dinghy for their short journey to the south coast of England. Most are met mid-channel by UK Border Force or RNLI vessels and delivered to beaches, where Border Force officials meet and greet them, for extremely light processing, before they're transferred to their 4 star hotels.
It's quite clearly a completely different situation and in no way comparable to the Australian solution. But, despite this, we can adapt the Australian solution in our favour, it just requires a little common sense and political will.
We could, for example, remove all Border Force and RNLI personnel and vessels from the channel and replace them with a couple of Royal Navy frigates and ancillary vessels manned by Royal Marine commandos.
The French deploy their naval vessels and it's not uncommon for them to pluck channel migrants from their dinghies and meet Border Force and RNLI vessels mid-channel to transfer their illegals to UK vessels. In effect, instead of returning those illegals to France, they are deliberately transferring their responsibility to the UK and our government actually condones and facilitates this, without protest. It's a ridiculous situation.
So instead, why don't we turn those boats back?
Obviously a Royal Navy frigate cannot nudge the small dinghies back into French waters, that would be clumsy and dangerous. But, the smaller ancillary vessels could. They could even tow several previously captured dinghies, with enough fuel to get back to the French coast, just in case there was damage incurred on the migrant's boats during the nudging.
Once the. Migrants are pushed over to the French side of the channel, the Royal Navy frigates radio the French vessels to collect their migrants, or oversee their safe passage back to the French coast. Drones could be deployed by the Royal Navy to cover 100s of miles of French coastline and direct the fast Royal Marine commando ancillary vessels to intercept the slow moving migrant dinghies.
If the Royal Naval vessels were instructed to refuse all migrants access to UK waters and return, push, nudge them all back into the French side of the channel, then there would be no need or demand to process a single illegal migrant on UK soil. So, just like the Australian model, we could certainly and successfully turn these small boats back to France, with our own small ancillary vessels, manned with determined Royal Marine commandos, who don't take prisoners.
We pay Macron millions of pounds every year to simply turn their heads and allow these illegal migrants to launch their dinghies towards England. So far, we've sent £500,000,000 in 5 years. Surely it's better to assign that money to our military budget to fund our Royal Navy and turnback the illegals for good.
